Biography

Career highlights

I work at Northeast Utilities in the corporate purchasing department, where I am responsible for maintaining compliance relating to procurement. I am formally trained as an attorney, but I work in a non-traditional capacity in the field of contract administration. I enjoy my work because it offers me a global view of the company for which I work. I am involved in projects that range from environmental remediation to building high voltage transmission lines to selecting the cafeteria services provider! Last year Governor Rell appointed me to the State Contracting Standards Board, which is tasked with reforming contracting in Connecticut.

Community involvement

It's incredibly important and rewarding to share your talents and give back to the community in which you live. Recently I served as the Chair of the Federal Hill Local Historic Study Committee. This Committee was successful in obtaining a majority of votes from residents to establish a local historic district in the Federal Hill neighborhood, designed to protect Bristol's historic resources. I am a board member of the American Clock and Watch Museum and the Family Center, both in Bristol. Recently I was a member of the Bristol Republican Town Committee and a mentor at Kinsella School in Hartford.

Biggest success

My biggest success is that I wake up every morning excited about going to work and about what I do. It is a great feeling to take pride in your work and the company you represent. To me, success means maintaining enthusiasm, energy, an eagerness to learn and a sense of humor every day.

Dream job

I want to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company. There are only seven woman CEOs of Fortune 500s currently, and that number must grow!

Businessperson they most admire and why

I have so much admiration and respect for the small and minority business owners in the U.S. Through my work I have the opportunity to work with the small and minority business community. These individuals are truly remarkable. They have worked hard and have made sacrifices that contribute to the strength of our economy. They have had the courage to take risks and overcome obstacles along the way to keep the American dream alive.
